Joaquín Pardavé Arce was a Mexican actor, director, composer, screenwriter and comedian, an important part of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, born on September 30, 1900, in Pénjamo, Guanajuato, Mexico. Son of the Spanish actors Joaquín Pardavé Bernal and Delfina Arce Contreras, his mother died when Joaquín was 16 years old, which led him to move from his native Guanajuato to Monterrey, where he would work as a telegrapher for Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México. While working there, he composed the song “Carmen,” in honor of his girlfriend Carmen Delgado. Three years later, Joaquín would travel to Mexico, after the death of his father.

At 18, Joaquín decided to follow in his parents’ footsteps. He first joined the musical theater company of his uncle Carlos and, later, that of the theater entrepreneur José Campillo. He would make his debut, in silent cinema, with the film Round Trip (1919) and then in films such as The Eagle and the Nopal (1929), Águilas Frente al Sol (1932), La Zandunga (1937), La Aunt of the Girls (1938) . ) and In the Times of Don Porfirio (1939). Shortly after, the actor would work in the popular comedy There is the detail (1940), one of his greatest successes, alongside Cantinflas, Sara García and Dolores Camarillo. In 1942, Joaquín debuted as a director in the film El baisano Jalil (1942), where he also acted, again alongside Sara García, which was followed by films such as Los niños de don Venancio, Soy charro de Rancho Grande, Una gallega in Mexico and El Mil Amores.

Despite his commitments as an actor and director, Pardavé never strayed away from music, where he composed songs such as México se collapsed, Negra consentida, Don’t make that woman cry, Caminito de la sierra, Bésame en la boca , covering genres such as waltzes, boleros, huapangos, corridos, tangos, rancheras and operettas, among others. Joaquín Pardavé died on July 20, 1955, due to a stroke, in Mexico City.
